Directions to Paradise (#2 NY-CA)

(part of The Paradise Project)

The first voyagers to the Americas really believed they had found Eden; Columbus called it “the terrestrial paradise” and went in search of the four rivers described in the Bible.  However, in the end, it was only the founders and citizens of the United States (and not the other Americas) who took the idea literally: if you punch in ‘Paradise’, Google Maps will show you a city, town or township in every state of the union. In the long wake of utopias and in full view of continued war, crises of migration and the ruins of the economic crisis, The Paradise Project revisits the paradisaical impulse by fusing the new utopian promises of virtual technologies with the old, but nonetheless virtual, uber-utopia of paradise.
