Let the margins

Gloria Macher‘s poem reflects on exclusion, resilience and the possibility of transformation through the imagery of margins, erasure, silence and light.

Dipti Gupta‘s diptych visualizes the poem’s proposal: that margins are not secondary to the text but active spaces capable of reshaping how meaning is made. The centre is no longer a fixed place of authority.

Together, the poem and the diptych invite us to read the page—and the painting—not from the centre outward, but from the margins inward. The margins cease to frame meaning; they begin to generate it.

let the margins
        rearrange
             their uneasy distance
                         from the main text

cluttered
       with colour
               shaped
                       by law

                                        stamped

                                                  again

ready
     to breathe
           through

                red ink
                      avalanches
                           silence

they
     will
          cross
                borrowed spaces

                          erased lines

                                   hardened ink

                                            until

                                                  the centre

                                                               yields

                                                    to light
