Hand Painted Silk – Mandalas work in progress
Artist Statement:
The preoccupation of life and death and the search for the transcendent are universal and timeless; it is the core which unites humans in the past as it does now in the present. In my work I interweave all iconic symbols and I appreciate their common spirit; I marvel at how similar they are even when the cultures, of which they are signatures, have existed at the opposite end of the globe.
Silk is the surface I favour for my large works, it is strong and delicate at the same time, it enhances the brilliance of colors and its transparency reveals the near and distant images, creating a unity in plurality.
Every silk thread is so delicate and so strong, so traditional and yet invites new forms and uses, it is the holder of 5000 years old memories and it enhances every space with its light: a very appropriate metaphor of the human spirit.
