Maria Worton is an activist and poet.
remembering and forgetting
the thames is
remembering
then forgetting
past the shimmering
concrete glass
front of festival
hall evaporating
in a mediterranean
heat people
are ordering
cold beer
sangria aside
from one
man hovering
sleeves rolled
forearms loose
limp ends
newly made
redundant by
two uniformed
keepers of the peace
weighing in
the beaten up
super bag
plastic bottle
whiff of water
used book
routinely noting
…in the drop-in
i'd served him…
what… eggs… tea…?
are you okay?
sun squinting
blue eyes
murmuring
he says
i’m emptying
my mind so
there’s nothing
for them
to find
there.
