ARTIST STATEMENT

Painting is a way for me to document my feelings. The object, event, environment, time of light or whatever subject I might choose is a starting point and then the dialogue begins. I alternate between a direct gestural approach and working with layered complex patterns of textures and color.

Watercolour is a medium which propels continuous dialogue and improvisation, allowing me to be spontaneous and playful, the result always a surprise.

Rastaman

I like to capture and sculpt light much like a singer sculpting sound, dancer sculpting space or writer sculpting thoughts. I strive to create an overall mood.

Life experience and emotion is the fuel that spark me to envision my creations. I see my soul reflected in my expressions.

Ceremony's Yard

Several years ago, I went to Jamaica and fell in love with the island, its lush beauty, warm people and rich culture.

I have formed long-lasting friendships with people there who have become like my second family. Jamaica feels like going home to me.

Wicked

These paintings on the theme of Jamaica reflect my experiences as a white foreign woman venturing in a black country, looking behind the scenes while always remaining an outsider. I am inspired by the many contrasts of extreme natural beauty and conditions of extreme poverty and struggle.

While in Jamaica I work directly from nature. I also like to take alot of photos and work from a selection of these photos when I get home.
